Background
What is Samfundet Gjøvik?
Samfundet Gjøvik is a cultural and social hub in Gjøvik, Norway, primarily serving students and the local community. It’s a place where people come together for events, activities, and socializing throughout the year. The venue also offers space rentals and provides information on upcoming events and ticket bookings.
However, the existing website has limitations when it comes to universal design, making it less accessible and user-friendly for some visitors.
Recognizing these challenges, Samfundet Gjøvik wanted to see how we could create a more inclusive and user-friendly experience. We developed a new website prototype that not only reflects their history, atmosphere, and core values but also prioritizes accessibility and ease of use for everyone!
About the project
Target audience
The target audience includes Samfundet Gjøvik’s guests, those renting spaces within the venue, and Samfundet’s staff
The solution
We aimed to redesign the website to enhance usability and accessibility. This included improving navigation, increasing color contrast for better visibility, simplifying the booking process, and adding a summary feature before finalizing reservations.
Method
We started with a UX evaluation of the current solution, followed by an on-site inspection and a survey with the client to gain a full overview. These insights greatly influenced the solution's development.
We created personas to better understand users and prioritized features using the MOSCOW method. To test the existing solution, we conducted user tests and observed task completion. We also used card sorting and flowcharts to improve website navigation and structure.
Design process
Designsystem
Our design system helps keep everything consistent and easy to manage. We organized reusable components like buttons, menus, calendars, and icons in Figma so they can be quickly applied across different pages. This makes the design process faster, more efficient, and ensures a uniform look and feel throughout the site
Wireframes / Lo-fi
Our lo-fi prototype was essential in shaping the concept, allowing us to quickly test and refine ideas. We began with wireframes, using methods like Crazy 8 for fast ideation and exploration. The lo-fi components we created in Figma served as the foundation for the high-fidelity elements in the final design system
